Monte Carlo aka The Losing Game
I've had a lot of fun in the studio over the last couple of days. I found some recordings of a song called 'Monte Carlo' that I wrote several years ago. I wrote it as an instrumental for a conference David Grainger and I were attending in Monte Carlo. David said he always liked it and so I've put it on the site today (David - hope you still like it). I play all the instruments (except the strings which I sequenced). I've re-recorded the drums as I couldn't play drums at the time. A friend sang a vocal at the time using my vocal as a guide and I've taken that through Suno and Audimee to produce the vocal for this version. So this is without AI assistance, apart from converting the vocal, and nowadays I would use this as the demo for an AI-assisted production. I will do that for a track on the next Mallory Vice album which will be called 'The Losing Game'.
I'm reluctant to release Monte Carlo itself as I took the guitar riff idea from the Artic Monkeys' version of Diamonds are Forever, although it's not exactly the same and it's less prominent in their song. This motif is in the Shirley Bassey version but not played on guitar and is more subtle.
I am actually writing a bond theme to see how it stacks up to the one that will accompany the next Bond movie in 2027. I thought that would be fun to do. The Losing Game based on Monte Carlo was a contender but I've written a song called 'Only the Fearless Survive' in which I have tried to include motifs that capture the essence of previous Bond themes. I'll release that as a single and include a mallory Vice band version on the next album as well.
All for fun and I hope you enjoy it as well.
