    Lyrics

They built it high they built it wide
A house of words a place to hide
Lit candles in the darkest night
But never let them see the light

They drew the lines they wrote the laws
Said every doubt was just a flaw
They spoke of peace with swords in hand
And claimed it all was heaven’s plan

But who was saved and who was heard
The weak fell silent lost for words
They built their thrones on holy ground
    While hope was buried underground

They sang of love but ruled with fear
Sold grace for gold year after year
The blind were led the poor were used
The books were bent the truth abused

They dressed in white they prayed in red
They spoke for souls but fed their heads
A million voices cried and bled
While saints were crowned and sinners fed

But who was free. and who could run
They said it’s over when it’s just begun
    A shepherd’s crook a prison gate
All carved in stone all sealed by fate

No angels wept no skies replied
Just echoes lost where prayers had died
They built a God that looked like them
And dared to call it holy then

So who would speak against all this
Who dares to break the eternal script
Who says these words that cut so deep
Who questions what the faithful keep
